Koenig’s First Take:
I gave this boat a pretty good kick in the tires, so to speak, at the convention center during the boat show in Miami, and I still can’t figure out how she’s got so much onboard space. Sure she’s big, but how the hell is she this big? I may have to do some further investigation one of these days.

You’ve heard me say it before, but the trend towards building bigger, brawnier, and more powerful center consoles simply refuses to quit. Case in point, the Scout 420, which debuted in February 2015.

In a field stiff with competition, the Scout has already made a splash. She’s billed as a “Luxury Sportfisher” and she certainly lives up to the name. As far as amenities, the 420 has an optional hydraulic swim platform (that deploys out of the side of the hull) with a stowable pocket ladder, and three optional Garmin touchscreens available at the helm. C-Zone digital-switching technology can be operated by a key fob to control numerous onboard systems. Other options include custom paint jobs on the engines and underwater deck and bow cameras, and a SureShade integrated retractable awning. There’s even an option for a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer—seriously.

Scout says it spent more than 400 hours testing the epoxy-infused, double-stepped hull for strength, speed, stability, and efficiency. Engine configurations include various numbers of 350-horsepower Mercury Verados and Yamaha F350s that reportedly can shoot the boat along at speeds broaching the hallowed 60-knot mark, a number many center console builders would like to be able to say they can hit.

All of which is to say, the Scout 420 is not only big and luxurious, but she can truly fly too. And that makes for one complete boat. It’s time to pay attention to Scout, something tells me they’ve got big things coming our way.
